The pancreatic cancer diet will to mean changing your regular eating habits. If fact any pancreatic disease whether acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer at whatever stage or treatment, will effect what you can eat and drink, this is because the main functions of the pancreas are to produce enzymes to digest food and insulin to keep blood sugar levels normal. These vital functions will be considerably affected with any disease of the pancreas.

Nutrition goals of a pancreatic cancer diet and any changes in diet are to keep to the dose and timetable of cancer treatments, Maintain or improve weight and strength, manage symptoms and prevent or undo poor nutrition.

Weight loss is a common problem because having cancer changes your metabolism and this means you need to eat more calories than you usually eat. You may not feel like eating more because the side effects of pancreatic cancer treatment can make it difficult to eat or drink enough nutrients or fluids. It is possibly you may feel full after only a few bites and perhaps food will taste different. Symptoms of pancreatic cancer such as, constipation, gas or nausea makes it difficult to eat.

Being in pain, emotional distress and feeling tired all affect your diet. Pancreatic insufficiency may be present after pancreatic surgery. This means the pancreas is not secreting enough of the digestive enzymes to digest food properly. This can cause diarrhea and a further weight loss. If you take an enzyme supplement before meals, it will help to stop these symptoms.

The pancreatic cancer diet should consist of six or eight snacks a day rather than trying to eat three full meals. Select foods high in calories and protein including cottage cheese, eggs, baked of broiled chicken, beef, fish and soups.

Drink plenty between meals but limit the amount when eating foods so you don’t fill up on liquid. Caffeinated drinks cause dehydration so avoid these. Buy nutritional supplements in the form of canned drinks or powders, which can be mixed with milk or water or puddings.

If nausea is a problem, avoid eating meals with strong odors, high fat greasy fried and spicy foods. Eating dry crackers will help when feeling nauseated.

High-vegetable diets are connected to protection against pancreatic cancer and researchers have established that eating lots of fruits and vegetables is linked with about a fifty percent decrease in the risk of developing pancreatic cancer.

We have looked at the foods, which constitute a healthy diet for pancreatic cancer, I would like you to consider how important water is to your diet, especially now. To do this we need to look at the relationship between dehydration and diabetes.

The pancreas has much to do with the giving out of water in the body. The first stage of digestion takes place in the stomach in and acid environment and the second stage of digestion takes place in the small intestine in an alkaline environment. The pancreas acts as “the middle man” by injecting an enzyme and bicarbonate solution into the intestine at the same time that the acidic content arrives there from the stomach. The solution made by the pancreas is designed to hydrate whatever enters the intestine and to make the intestine alkaline ready for this next stage of digestion. The stomach will only empty its contents into the intestine when the pancreas is able to provide the water needed to micro digest food and the alkaline solution to neutralize the acid.

The beta cells in the pancreas produce insulin and circulate it. When the body is fully hydrated, insulin-sensitive receptors enable sugar and amino acids to enter the cell with the water necessary for cellular digestion. Thereby the rate of insulin production is reliant on the quantity of water that gets to the pancreas.

This has a knock on effect, as the body gets more dehydrated, insulin release is reduced and diabetes develops and the body becomes even more dehydrated, which will eventually affect many other parts of the body. I believe this demonstrates the importance of drinking plenty of fresh water at any time but especially in the pancreatic cancer diet.

Pancreatic Cancer Cures are what frees the individual from pancreatic cancer. It is not considered a cure until the individual has lived five years after diagnosis. There are many mistaken beliefs about pancreatic cancer as to how long people are surviving pancreatic cancer and what life expectancy they will have. Firstly, it is thought to be a terminal illness and that a rapid death is pending. This may be true for a number of people but it is imperative to acknowledge that the most people identified with pancreatic cancer can be helped. Usually substantially, in both how long, they will live and how well they will experience their life.

It is imperative to keep in mind that any pancreatic cancer mortality numbers for five years mortality only judge’s individuals who had a diagnosis made over five years ago. In view of that fact, there has been considerable progress in all areas of pancreatic cancer treatments; pancreatic cancer prognosis is probably very much higher than what it was five years ago.

Pancreatic cancer cures can take place in clinical trials. These are research studies by experts in the field of oncology to test new treatment on human subjects. Oncology studies cancer. It is concerned with five major areas. These are etiology, biology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Oncology has led to most valuable advance in the understanding of pancreatic cancer, treatments and cures. Oncologists are medical doctors who devote themselves to the treatment of cancer and further proficiency as radiation therapy, surgical or medical oncologists.

Pancreatic cancer cures can take the form of a pancreatic cancer vaccine. Vaccines may be used at all pancreatic cancer stages One type of vaccine is used in adjuvant therapy (after pancreatic cancer surgery), to reduce the chances of the cancer returning. Prior to these vaccines being made available, adjuvant therapy involved a combination of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Another possibility for pancreatic cancer cures using the vaccine approach, in patients who have undergone pancreatic cancer surgery to completely remove the tumor. They are then given pancreatic cancer treatment in the form of a vaccine to immunize and protect the person against an abnormal gene. This is a gene that is exclusive to pancreatic cancer cells. Initially results point towards this immunization approach being very safe and well tolerated and an aid towards surviving pancreatic cancer for longer.

Pancreatic cancer cures in clinical trials have progressed with an immune boosting vaccine. Early indications show better odds of surviving pancreatic cancer. With this vaccination, the average results have increase from sixty three percent to eight percent one year after diagnosis. Averages of pancreatic cancer patients treated with the vaccine alive two years after diagnosis went from forty two percent to seventy six percent. This is still not reaching the five-year marker necessary to be classed as a complete cure but progress is constantly being made and so much is dependent upon the stage of the pancreatic cancer and the person’s ability to function in daily life.

Pancreatic cancer clinical trials are using this vaccine collectively with conventional surgery and postoperative radiation treatment and chemotherapy. The vaccine emits a molecule that attracts the body’s immune cells to the location of the cancer. Once attracted to the tumor, the immune cells lifts up other antigens from the exterior of the irradiated cells. This helps to recognize and wipe out any residual active cancer cells in the persons body.

It is therefore possible to see that much progress is being made with these and other pancreatic cures, although at the moment, the best chance of surviving pancreatic cancer is dependent on an early diagnosis.

Pancreatic cancer support groups give sufferers of pancreatic and liver disease an opportunity to be with other pancreatic cancer patients. This is somewhere where you can share your feeling and thoughts with a group. To listen to other people’s stories of how they have dealt and acted in response to the same challenges that you are facing. This can be so supportive and a great help. This is because one of the hardest things to face when you are diagnosed with cancer is that sensation of being alone. Thinking and feeling that no one really grasps what you are going through.

Most people living with pancreatic cancer will be concerned about the future. How they are going to care for themselves or their families. They will wonder how much longer they will be able to work and continue with normal daily activities.

Concerns about pancreatic cancer treatments and managing side effects, hospital stays, and medical bills are also common. Pancreatic cancer support groups are run by organizations and most often led by a health professional or patient trained to be a leader and there may be practitioners, nurses, and other health care team members. They can answer your questions about treatment, diet, work, and other matters.

Pancreatic cancer support groups may arrange practical help in the form a social worker, counselor, or member of the clergy. This can help those who need to talk about their emotions and concerns. Often, a social worker can suggest resources for home care, financial aid, emotional support, transportation and other services, which help when living with pancreatic cancer.

These pancreatic cancer support groups may be based around a particular cancer or open to those with any cancer. Sometimes a particular cancer group will divide into smaller groups e.g. a pancreatic cancer support group may also include those suffering from related illness such as acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis.

Pancreatic cancer support groups and tumor support groups can be planned and orderly or more social and informal. They may provide for building supportive relationships and sharing of people’s individual experiences or educationally focused with speakers from various organizations on different issues.

Some pancreatic cancer support groups may be for a limited time only such as a three-month period or possibly open ended drop in sessions. There are now an ever-increasing number of online pancreatic cancer support groups.

A quick glance at some of these online pancreatic cancer support groups and communities convinced me that it would be well worth a second visit. Just a few things on offer, beside the obvious support, were discussion forums, a kitchen and nutrition center, brochures and pamphlets, books, links to other supported websites, a nutrition handbook, advice on nutrition during treatment, suggestions for handling problems during pancreatic cancer treatment, an explanation of digestive enzymes, a mind and body room, a very good education section and a lot of information on other organizations and pancreatic cancer support groups.

Please be aware that because a professional does not moderate some of these groups, not all information may be accurate. Any advice you receive from an online support group should be discussed with your physician.

A pancreatic cancer ribbon is a purple in color. Purple cancer ribbons are made and worn to raise pancreatic cancer awareness. Pancreatic cancer ribbon was developed educate the public about a range of cause-related matters. These include health care, early detection, prevention, risk factors, devastating illnesses and life-threatening diseases. Awareness Ribbons increase public support through awareness about matters that affect our lives everyday of the year.

In the early nineties cancer ribbons became a successful tool for promoting awareness about cancer. This began with pink ribbons for breast cancer. There are now different colors representing support for each kind of cancer. Remember the song “Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree?” This is all about making a statement, raising awareness and being noticed.

Cancer sufferers and survivors saw the need for all cancer survivors to come together with their weapons, faith, hope, love, a positive attitude and healing. Knowing that along with the diagnoses is the choice to give in or fight and that these diseases are taking far too many fatalities… neighbors, coworkers, friends and family. Choosing the later and recognizing that something as simple as wearing a cancer ribbon pin would getting the public’s attention, increase awareness and raise funds.

There are many cause-related promotion companies specializing in sponsoring cancer ribbons for awareness about causes like that of pancreatic cancer, liver cancer and many more that have an effect on our lives daily. They devise and make cancer awareness ribbons and other products that include awareness messages about a particular cause on the back of the package. This is designed to educate the public and raise awareness and support purple ribbon campaigns with a percentage of profits being donated to charities.

Some color ribbons indicate support for other fine causes as well, a cancer ribbon in all its shades has gained recognition in the past decade. Merchandise developed from the pancreatic cancer ribbon include ribbon pins, pens, car magnets, band bracelets, water bottles, umbrellas, stained glass, paper post its notes, hats, tattoos, cell phone accessories, coffee mugs books, jewelry, shirts, socks, gifts, watches, and many more is gaining popularity. My personal favorite, which I also find, offers the most significance is a purple ribbon brooch for pancreatic cancer with an angel in the middle.

The cancer ribbon cares to tell you that eighty per cent of all cancers are due to identifiable factors such as smoking and alcohol abuse, and consequently potentially avoidable. They care to get all the backing for cancer awareness, research and support. They care to increase funds for cancer research, hospice care and treatment. Do you want to be part of an awareness campaign? Endorse your support to fight cancer and wear a cancer ribbon.

Metastatic pancreatic cancer is the term used to describe the spread of the cancer to a distant organ. Unlike normal cells, cancer cells have the power to attack other organs directly or to spread via lymphatic channels and the blood stream to other areas of the body. This is called metastasis.

As cells keep on to growing uncontrollably, they form a pancreatic mass or tumor. These cells can suspend the normal function of the system or organ by smothering and killing the normal cells or by blocking the passageway from one organ to another.

The most common spread of Metastatic pancreatic cancer is to the abdominal cavity, the lymph nodes (leukemia) and liver (liver cancer). When the abdominal cavity or peritoneum is involved, tumor cells are released into ascites. If it happens that no previous diagnosis has been made, then sampling the fluid can establish Metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Where the pancreatic tumor is formed is known as the primary site. The metastases are the places where the cancer has spread. Regardless of the site of spread, the primary site of origin always refers to the cancer; therefore, pancreas cancer spread to the liver is called Metastatic pancreatic cancer and not liver cancer. When treating Metastatic cancers it is important to know the origin of the cancer because a treatment, which works well on liver cancer, may not work at all on a pancreatic tumor.

Metastatic pancreatic cancer is known as a stage4 (1V) pancreatic cancer. This staging refers to the degree of the cancer. Pancreas cancer survival is directly related to the staging of pancreatic tumor. This means that forty percent of individuals with a small adenocarcinoma or pancreatic tumor with no lymph nodes involved could be expected to live five years. With Metastatic pancreatic cancer, the estimated pancreas cancer survival time is probably no more than three to six months.

Pancreas cancer treatment is also dependent upon the staging. Operable pancreatic cancers are stage as 1 or 11. Localized but inoperable pancreatic adenocarcinomas are staged as 111. A stage111 pancreatic tumor is identified when the pancreatic tumor is wrapped around main blood vessels. It is not possible to operate under these conditions because these main blood vessels cannot be removed, as they are vital for life.

For a stage 111 locally advanced pancreatic tumor where there is no Metastatic pancreatic cancer, pancreas cancer treatment is likely to be a combination or chemotherapy and radiation. It is possible that sometimes, following this combined treatment that the tumor may shrink and become operable.

Metastatic pancreatic cancer treatments are palliative in nature. Gemcitabine is a relatively newly licensed chemotherapy drug has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration based on its quality of life benefits. Improving quality of life and relieving symptoms is a major goal in treating patients with Metastatic and other inoperable stages of cancer. Palliative pancreas cancer treatment is therefore not useless but of great value.

The Pancreatic cancer message board is a unique virtual community that gives you a chance to benefit from open discussion amongst other cancer patients, their friends, relatives volunteers, survivors, and others seeking information. You can see what others have posted and you can post your own inquiries. Join in with others and comment on topics that are of interest to you. Membership is usually free but you will probably have to register and sign in before being able to post a comment or question of your own.

These message boards are usually an integral part of online support group websites. The online pancreatic cancer support groups are for those suffering the disease or other related diseases such as liver cancer, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis and leukemia, are increasing in number. It is very stressful having to make decisions about your treatments, becoming involved with a community and a pancreatic cancer message board can empower you to make decisions that are more informed.

Not only this, but after being diagnosed with cancer, one of the most difficult parts of having cancer is feeling alone and that no one really understands what you are going through. It is commonly known that talking about our emotional issues can reduce stress and ascribe to health improvements.

The pancreatic cancer message board offers a wide variety of forums to choose from. Probably the best place to start with is the introduction forum. Here you can introduce yourself to others. Following this there is a general topic forum. A place to share your know-how, learn about your tumor and discuss your problems.

As most support websites, pancreatic cancer message board(s) and forums are similar in nature, I will include a brief overview of my findings on one of these.

As well as the two topics above, there is a latest news forum. This is where you can post or view postings by others of all press releases, reports on pancreatic cancer and articles. Here you will find the latest on pancreatic and liver cancer, pancreatitis and leukemia.

The next forum on the pancreatic cancer message board is treatment and alternative medicine. May be you have not heard of a new cancer treatment. Perhaps you have questions related to one for example Whipple procedure and surgery. Have you tried alternative medicine to help your fight against cancer? Learn about these here.

Success story forum, help others and receive help from them. Share how to you came through your traumatic experience with pancreatic cancer. Read their stories as well.

Financial help forum, where you can share your financial worries and discuss debt build up from Cancer treatments. There are many valuable tips here for anyone experiencing financial problems.

The pancreatic message board is not only for those with pancreatic cancers or liver disease but also their family members, husbands, wife’s, brothers and sisters. There is also a specific forum for bereavement support.

There is so much more to these support websites and to the pancreatic cancer message board than I have discussed here. Why not do a web search and see what’s available to you?
